 Pittsburgh Celebrates 250th Birthday

Oct. 3, 2008 – Pittsburgh, host city for the 2008 NTA Annual Convention, will commemorate its 250th anniversary this weekend with a series of signature events.

The weekend of activities include the arrival of the bicycle team that rode from Washington, D.C., to Pittsburgh as part of the PNC Legacy Trail Ride, an aquatic parade featuring many different kinds of vessels, a French and Indian War re-enactment, a "Pittsburgh Born and Bred: concert featuring local artists and the largest fireworks show in the city’s history.

Pittsburgh was founded Nov. 25, 1758, when British Gen. John Forbes and his men took possession of Fort Duquesne. Many of the festivities will take place around Point State Park, an area of the city where Fort Duquesne was originally located.
