NTA Receives International Coverage On CNBC
August 19, 2004 – Mitch Sussman, NTA Chairman, and Hank Phillips, NTA President, were featured on CNBC yesterday. Last week, the two were interviewed by CNBC, the business division of cable news network NBC, concerning the recovery of international inbound travel since Sept. 11. The segment recognized that despite terrorist threats, travelers are once again coming to America. While international inbound travel has been down compared to the numbers in the year 2000, this year promises to be different. Mitch offered a tour operator’s perspective, stating that 2004 "has been the year of recovery." Hank added to this, pointing out that the weak dollar has contributed to this increase, as the dollar is weak in comparison to the Euro and other overseas currency. The piece ended on a high note as Mitch mentioned the "strong push in recent months back to the bigger cities such as New York, Washington, D.C., and Boston." This year is expected to be the first since 2000 to see an increase in international inbound travel, up seven percent from 2003.
