New Jersey Casinos, Parks and Beaches to Reopen
July 7, 2006 – A tentative agreement has been reached on the New Jersey state budget, which would allow state employees to head back to work. Committees in the state Senate and Assembly will consider the legislation Friday afternoon (July 7), clearing the way for a budget vote, and then Governor Jon Corzine would have to sign an executive order to formally end the shutdown.

Casinos, parks and beaches, which have been closed since Wednesday, July 5, due to there being no approved budget, would begin reopening as soon as they can. How quickly each of those attractions can get up and running will depend on each one’s ability to get adequate staff back to work.

According to Elaine Zamansky, media relations manager for the Atlantic City Convention and Visitors Association, it is expected – if the budget gets signed today – that all casinos, parks and beaches will be fully operational no later than Sunday. However, it is likely that many will be open sooner.
