More Vacationers Traveling with Other Families, Friends
Oct. 15, 2003 – Vacationing with extended family, other families and friends – its own distinct form of group travel – is on the rise, according to a new survey from travel services marketing firm Yesawich, Pepperdine, Brown & Russell.

Almost eight out of 10 active leisure travelers took at least one vacation in the last five years with extended family, other families and friends, the poll found. Conducted in August, the survey involved 1,655 active leisure travelers.

Other numbers from the survey were:

  • Sixty-nine percent (compared with 57 percent in 2000) of respondents cited "spend time with family" as very or extremely important in 2003 when selecting a vacation.
  • Fifty-four percent (compared with 43 percent in 2000) chose "spend time with friends" as extremely or very important in choosing a vacation.
  • Forty percent organized group dining excursions and a similar amount put together group-recreational events this year, the survey revealed.
