International Arrivals Down for 2002
Total international arrivals to the United Stated declined 7 percent to 41.9 million in 2002 compared to 44.9 million in 2001, according to recently released information from the Department of Commerce, Office of Travel and Tourism Industries.
The United Kingdom brought the most overseas visitors in 2002, with 3.8 million people visiting the United States. The second top market to bring visitors to the United States was Japan with 3.6 million travelers coming to the area in 2002.
Mexico and South Korea were the only two destinations to witness an increase in vacationers to the United States, with total visitation from Mexico growing 3 percent to register 9.8 million people in 2002. South Korea brought 638,697 travelers to the United States in 2002, an increase of 3 percent over 2001.
