Important .travel Update
May 23, 2005 – As a free service to members, NTA expects to begin offering pre-authentication for .travel domain names to its members by July 1. The pre-authentication period will last for 60 days and .travel will be available for purchase only by association members who have pre-authenticated. This period is called "limited launch" and will last from Sept. 1 through Nov. 30. with .travel becoming available globally on Dec. 1. However, those who purchase after Dec. 1 will still need to go through pre-authentication process prior to purchase.

DMOs who wish to purchase their destination place name – like www.nevada.travel or www.lasvegas.travel – as their .travel domain name will be required to submit a letter from the highest elected body having authority over their destination, such as the mayor’s office or office of the city council. Destinations will need this letter for the pre-authentication and must submit this document to NTA, along with any other supporting documents for names for which the destination wishes to apply.

An extensive list of place names will be put on the reserved list for six months in order to give destinations ample time to submit their supporting documentation. After that period, names will be removed from the reserved list and made available to other travel entities. The reserved list will be published on NTA Online as soon as it is accessible, as well as other information on the ".travel" naming policies.

Please note the timeline may continue to be adjusted as the details are worked out between Tralliance and ICANN.
