Getting Around New York City
December 20, 2005 – NYC & Company wants visitors to know that New York City is open for business. The organization is providing transit strike options and tips on their Web site at http://www.nycvisit.com/.

There are plenty of transportation options in the city. AirTrain, Long Island Rail Road, Staten Island Railway, Long Island Bus, PATH, New Jersey transit (commuter rail and bus), Westchester County Bee-Line Bus, the Staten Island Ferry and Metro-North train service will not be affected.

Beware of pedicabs, unmarked cabs or other unlicensed vehicles. Do not accept rides from any vehicle that is not licensed by the Taxi and Limousine Commission.

The city will enforce HOV-4 (four or more passengers) restrictions for traffic entering Manhattan south of 96th Street from 5 to 11am, Monday-Friday, and on selected roads that feed into Manhattan crossings.

NYC & Company advises that Taxi and Limousine Commission licensed vehicles will be subject to HOV requirements. TLC will set the authorized maximum rate of fare per person for taxis as follows:

  • Up to $10 initial charge and travel in one fare zone
  • $5 charge for entering another fare zone

TLC will set the authorized maximum rate of fare per person to NYC airports as follows:
