DOT Announces Final Decision for 2009 China Flights
Jan. 2, 2008 – The Department of Transportation has announced the final decision for 2009 flights to China. U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mary E. Peters announced last week that US Airways will inaugurate its first U.S.-China service in 2009 American Airlines, Continental Airlines and Northwest Airlines also were awarded additional U.S.-China passenger flights in 2009.

In July Secretary Peters signed an agreement to open up new opportunities between the United States and China that willl double the number of daily flights allowed between the two countries over the next five years.

"We are taking every opportunity to make it easier to do business and more convenient to stay connected with one of our largest trading partners," said Secretary Peters. "These new direct routes will provide more options for both business and leisure passengers traveling between the United States and China."
