Canadian Domestic Tourism Growth Offers Hope
January 08, 2004 – While Canada has experienced major decreases in incoming international and U.S. visitors, its domestic tourism has grown, says the Conference Board of Canada’s exclusive report on key trends for the travel industry for December 2003/January 2004.
According to the Tourism Industry Association for Canada, creative marketing, partnerships and community involvement have all played a role in tourism growth. Discount airlines have also increased access for domestic travelers with low-cost carriers increasing both flight schedules and seat capacities.
The report indicates that consumer confidence is up, the economy is improving and 39 percent of Canadians plan to travel this winter.
