Barb Bowman of Grand Junction VCB Receives NTA Volunteer of the Year Award
Pittsburgh, Pa. – Barb Bowman of the Grand Junction Visitor and Convention Bureau received the NTA Volunteer of the Year Award yesterday at the NTA Annual Convention in Pittsburgh. An NTA member for nearly 20 years, Bowman consistently demonstrates the leadership and dedication that makes a great volunteer.
"Barb has made outstanding contributions to the association, and she is always there for her colleagues," said NTA Chairman and CEO Bob Hoelscher, CTP. "Barb was nominated for the NTA Volunteer of the Year Award due to her unselfish work and enthusiasm for NTA. She, and individuals like her, ensure the association’s overall success and we are extremely grateful for her commitment and genuine passion for NTA."
Bowman served as the chairman of the 2006 NTA Annual Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah, and always volunteers her time at the Convention. Among her other contributions to the association, she was the DMO representative on the Board of Directors in 2004; chair of the Government Relations Committee in 2001; Bulldog of the Year in 2000; a member of the Government Relations Committee in 1999 and 2000; a member of the Education Committee in 2001; a member of the Research and Development Committee in 2002 and a Board Liaison to the Convention Committee in 2003. She currently serves as the chair of NTA’s Tracking Task Force.
A constant cheerleader for the association, Bowman has even begun a new tradition in Grand Junction. Each year, she holds a contest for the first NTA member in Grand Junction to register for the NTA Convention.
NTA created the NTA Volunteer of the Year Award in 2007 in recognition of its dedicated volunteers. Clayton Whitehead of Sports Leisure Vacations was the first recipient of the award at the 2007 NTA Convention in Kansas City.
