Americans Interested, but Waiting to Book Summer Travel Plans
Nearly 80 percent of Americans are still planning to travel this summer on at least one leisure trip, but a high 38 percent still have not begun to plan their trip. This according to the most recent War Impact Survey conducted by the Travel Industry Association of America (TIA).
On a positive note, the survey found that 42 percent of American travelers have either started making their leisure plans or have booked their vacations. Of the 38 percent who haven’t started planning their vacations yet, 65 percent say they have not decided when to go and 39 percent have not chosen their destination. Fourteen percent are waiting to find out if prices decrease. Additionally, economic concerns took a toll on 34 percent of travelers and lack of time was a concern for 30 percent.
The survey also continues to reiterate recent leisure travel trends, as Americans report a high interest in traveling by automobile, RV, and motorcoach. Travelers are also visiting small towns and rural areas and spending less than three nights on their expeditions. Consumers appear to be interested in vacations that involve cruising, casinos and large city destinations.
