Air Midwest Commuter Plane Crashes in Charlotte, N.C.
A US Airways Express/Air Midwest commuter plane with 19 people and two crew members on board crashed into a US Airways hangar at the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport in Charlotte, N.C. at approximately 9:00 a.m. this morning. There were no survivors.
According to CNN.com, US Airways Express/Air Midwest Flight 5481 took off around 8:45 a.m. bound for the Greenville-Spartanburg Jetport in Greenville, S.C. The airplane could not maintain altitude and came down on its back.
The Charlotte-Douglas International Airport immediately closed after the crash, but has since reopened. Air traffic conditions are returning to normal after delays were seen at airports throughout the southeast this morning.
