Air Delays Continue Today Across the Northeast
February 13, 2006 – New York’s LaGuardia and Kennedy, Newark, Boston-Logan and Washington-National airports were all forced to close briefly over the weekend following a major winter snow storm. As many as 2,000 flights were affected when as much as two feet of snow fell in some areas.

According to CNN, New York’s Metro Rail service was halted over the weekend. The city’s subway and bus systems were operating, although buses were running less frequently than usual, according to the Port Authority.

AirTran pre-cancelled 56 flights over the weekend in anticipation of the storm. Passengers holding reservations purchased by Feb. 10 for travel Feb. 10-12 from certain cities were permitted to make changes within a seven-day window with no penalty. Customers whose flights were cancelled may request refunds.

United revised its ticketing policies for customers with travel plans to and from Richmond, Va.; Washington, D.C.; Baltimore; Allentown, Pa.; Harrisburg, Pa.; Philadelphia, Pa.; Newark, N.J.; New York; White Plains, N.Y.; Hartford, Conn.; Providence, R.I.; Boston; Manchester, N.H.; and Portland, Maine. These revised policies apply to all customers ticketed on or before Feb. 10, for travel on or between Feb. 11 to Feb. 13 on any United, United Express, Ted or United codesharing flight. Only customers with already canceled flights are eligible for a full refund. All changes must be made by midnight of the customer’s original travel date.

Spirit Airlines is allowing customers holding reservations for travel Saturday, Feb. 11 through Sunday, Feb. 12 into or out of Atlantic City, Washington, D.C., New York-LaGuardia, or Providence to make a one-time change to their reservations without penalty. Spirit waived its $40 service fee and any fare difference provided that travel is rebooked and completed by Feb. 14. Customers wishing to travel beyond Feb. 14 will not be charged the $40 service fee, but any fare difference will apply.

Delta cancelled some flights because of the storm. Customers who purchased a ticket by Feb. 10, and were scheduled to travel Feb. 10-12 to, from or through select cities on Delta, Song, or Delta Connection, or Delta-coded flights, may make a one-time change without penalty or additional fees if tickets are changed by Feb. 16, and travel begins on or before Feb. 16.

JetBlue waived change fees for any flights to or from Washington-Dulles on Feb. 11, and to or from New York-Kennedy and LaGuardia, Newark and Boston on Feb. 12.

Continental said operations should gradually resume Monday. However, many flights remain subject to delay and cancellation. Passengers are required to rebook before Feb. 15.
